Juddmonte homebred Show Card romped home the easiest of winners in the Tranquility Lake Stakes at Del Mar Monday. The bay filly sat just off pacesetter Yuki through a quarter in :23.42 and was pressing that longshot as the field of five bunched up down the backstretch as the half went up in :47.25. Show Card took charge approaching the stretch and strode clear down the lane to an effortless victory.
Favored Super Shine was left at the gate and trailed the field early. Rank up the backstretch, she moved up along the rail to challenge for the lead on the inside of the pacesetter while Show Card was making her move to the outside, but her rally flattened out at the top of the lane. She fought back to grab the runner-up spot.
Show Card produced back-to-back victories at Santa Anita this spring, breaking her maiden Mar. 16 and returning to beat winners May 5, both at six furlongs. Stretched to two turns for the first time, she faded to last of four in the 1 1/16-mile GII Summertime Oaks last time out June 8.
Cognitive, purchased by Juddmonte for $500,000 as a yearling at the 2016 Fasig-Tipton Saratoga sale, has an unraced 2-year-old filly by Not This Time, as well as a yearling filly by Into Mischief and a weanling filly by Constitution.
